Reasons to Get Couples Counselling

It is usually a crisis that initiates the move towards therapy, counselling, psychotherapy - the recognition that your level of distress is high, and you don't know what to do about it - especially if you notice repeated negative patterns, affecting your effectiveness in relationships, work, leisure. You may have the urge to comfort yourself through any repeated non-purposeful thought or behavior, which, while it may afford temporary relief, doesn't solve the problem. After the distracting activity, the problem is still there, perhaps even worse. Getting help at this point in time certainly offers the hope that you can get relief, can see possibilities for change, can make changes, and things can become better.

You certainly want to experience your life as purposeful! Everyone can, as their birthright, search for what brings you joy, satisfaction, connection, and fulfillment. Whether its through a spiritual connection with the soul of your being that lift you, or, through the warmth and joy of sharing with another, or, through the triumph that a person feels through successes achieved, a person wants to, and deserved the right to, a life of satisfaction. Knowing that you can, and how you can, relieves anxiety, removes concern, and creates a gradual shift towards deserved confidence. Even your criteria for evaluating possibilities can be resoundingly clarified, all of which opens possibilities, and, without which there is pain.

There are many sources of pain in this life of ours. The assistance of a wise and compassionate psychotherapist may well be able to assist you, to help you find coping strategies, or, even better, to find a way of being that brings you to your centered-self, engaging a deep sense of psychological balance, from within which elements within and around you take their place intuitively correctly. This orientation results in "healing from within". The world can look, sound,and feel like a better more welcoming home, where all good things are possible, and life is totally worth living. Bring it on!!!

Limitations, in this context, in this way of living life, and even normal losses, can be assimilated, even as we choke and suffer from eating too much, or the wrong thing. After the digestion, and indigestion, is completed,  and we have got the value, even sometimes the nourishment (!) from the experience, can we now look around, and then look straight ahead, and see blue sky, and lovely possibilities. Challenging, yes. Possible? Probably. Let's try it!


COUNSELLING PSYCHOTHERAPY FOR COUPLES
 
What applies to individuals also applies to couples. In addition, couples must address: * What you want from/with your partner?
* What problems, of the kinds discussed above, are preventing your from reaching your goals with your partner? * How
strong is the commitment to each other? * Are differences in goals negotiable and reconcilable? Does the couple have the
communication tools needed to accomplish mutual support, understanding, satisfaction, and goal accomplishment? On of the
beautiful things about couples therapy is that couples can - if assisted in structuring transactions - be very helpful in healing
past losses, disappointments, and wounds, all of which creates the conditions for wonderful closeness, trust, gratitude,
and love.


SHORT TERM PSYCHOTHERAPY, RELATIONSHIP COUNSELLING, TREATMENT, COACHING "Solution-Focussed"

Sometimes a few meetings, or a few months of meetings, are sufficient. Impasses can be met with understandings, deeper and calmer responses, greater breath of compassion for self and other, and, where there were "blocks", avenues open. Where there was pain, understanding, patience and gratitude can reside. Where there was jaggedness or cacophony, there can be visual balance, harmony. We now know what to do, and how to do it. Here we go, into this world, to try it out. We can always return for a "tune up", or for assistance with a "crisis". But now we can.

LONG-TERM PSYCHOTHERAPY, RELATIONSHIP COUNSELLING, TREATMENT, COACHING

There is really nothing like the benefits of long-term individual psychotherapy, especially, several times per week, or at lesser intervals, but, for a long, long time. What  relief to finally be able to tell someone things your hardly knew about yourself. It is said that "our nature becomes born into our consciousness". In this way, a human being can "truly become them self". Eventually, and amazingly, you feel like nothing remains too deep, too sensitive, too painful, too vulgar, too shameful, too outrageous, too vague, too unknowable, too mysterious, too complex. Such discussions with your therapist enables you to wrap your own conscious awareness around the elements of your nature, your passion, your drives, your yearnings, your dreams, so that you can - less disturbed by turbulence or confusion, settle into the tasks, and joys, of making the most of our life. I heartily recommend this experience. I have had this, as a patient, and still do; I am still uncovering and discovering more of myself, making my life progressively more joyous, flexible, and meaningful. Unfortunately working with an individual therapist over a long period of time is expensive. However, if you can afford it, is is not to be missed! It used to be in style, psychoanalysis, long-term-psychotherapy, Jungian dream therapy, "the couch". Movie stars would joke about "my analyst said", and "I'll tell my analyst if you do that!" ... so on. These days, in a commoditized world, where fast and cheap are all-too-much the necessity, it is the privileged few who engage in long-term psychotherapy. If you ask them about is, they'll tell you things like, "I'm much happier since I now know myself better." "I used to get depressed, but now I feel much stronger." "I'm at peace with myself, with others, and with the world around me." I am feeling better about my mother." "Instead of knowing that a fight is coming, I can hold still inside, and I can keep the peace. What a relief!"
